Universitas Brawijaya Holds International Halal & Thayyib Conference 2019 (Towards a Halal and Thayyib World: Strategies for New Halal Lands) in the framework of the 57th Anniversary, the event took place on Samantha Krida Building, Universitas Brawijaya, 27-28 November 2019.
The event was started by singing the national anthem Indonesia Raya, Recitation of the Holy Qur’an, the appearance of the saman dance as a manifestation of the Islamic cultural show, and remarks by the Rector of Universitas Brawijaya. Also present was Prof. Dr. KH. Ma’ruf Amin as the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia and Mrs. Hj. Wuri Ma’ruf Amin, Dra. Hj. Khofifah Indar Parawansa, M.Sc as Governor of East Java, Drs. Teten Masduki as the Minister of Cooperative and MSME(UMKM of the Republic of Indonesia and other ministry representative who also present.
K.H Ma’ruf Amin gave a speech at the 2019 International Halal & Thayyib Conference, he said that this event was very important, to promote the halal industry in Indonesia as a national economic backbone. Regarding Islamic economic and financial development, we currently have good momentum. Indonesia recently gained a ranking from 10th in 2018, to 4th place in 131 countries in 2019, according to the Islamic Finance Development Indicator (IFDI) in terms of Islamic financial development. Even according to the Islamic Finance Country Index (IFCI), Indonesia in 2019 has been ranked first, up from the 6th rank in 2018.
The next remarks by the Minister of Cooperatives and MSMEs of the Republic of Indonesia, conveyed the contribution of MSMEs to the Economy namely MSME contributions to Indonesia. The contribution of MSMEs is considered to be still low in contribution compared to neighboring countries, whereas the number of Indonesian MSMEs is more than that of neighboring countries. Not only Muslim countries that want to dominate the halal market, but also the majority of non-Muslim countries such as Australia, Brazil, New Zealand has become the world’s largest importer of halal products. Indonesia, which is the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, exports halal food products not in the top 10 in the world ranking.
The series of events continued with a discussion consisting of three discussion sessions, the first session was moderated by Dr. Sc. Asep Awaludin Prihanto, S.Pi, MP. Also present was the guest speaker Prof. Ir.Sukoso, M.Sc, Ph.D as Head of Halal Product Assurance Body (BPJPH) delivered material on Halal Industry, Regulation and Policy in Indonesia , Mehmet Zafer Gedikli (Turkey) delivered material on halal propositions.
Second Session was moderated by Mukhamad Kholid Mawardi, Ph.D was also present as a guest speaker Dr. H. Eman Suryaman as Chairman of BPNU Delivering material entitled ‘The Role of NU in Guaranteed Halal Products’ from the representative of the Nahdatul Ulama executive board’, Ir. Enny Ratnaningtyas, MS Director of Food Indonesia Embeseries Product from the Ministry of Industry Presenting related material ‘The Role of Halal Industry in the Indonesian Economy’, Prof. Dr. KH. Abdul Mu’ti as the Muhammadiyah board member explained the material related to the Role of Muhammadiyah in Building a Halal Life Culture.
Session 3 was moderated by Dr. Ir. Adam Wiryawan, MS was present as a guest speaker Afdal Aliasar as Director of the National Sharia Finance Committee (KNKS) Delivering material entitled ‘Islamic Digital Economy for Development of the World’s Halal Industry’, Rahfie Syaefulshaaf, SH., M.Kn as deputy Chairman of PT PNM ( Permodalan Nasional Madani) delivered material on halal certification to MSMEs, Indrayana (GM Corporate Communication of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk) delivered material on the potential for halal food, Prof.Dr. Ir. Sasmito Djati, MSc (Vice Chancellor of Brawijaya University) Presenting material entitled ‘Beyond scientific border: Halal Research, a reconstruction of religious epistemology’ then each discussion session ends with a question and answer session.
The second day of the event continued with a presentation about the paper that was made by the conference participants divided into 3 chambers located in Widyaloka building (11/28/2019) (AZL)
